Social Ministry

Social Ministry is where we put Christ's teaching into action.  It involves our outreach in Christian love to our community and the world.  Through Social ministry activities and collections we spread Christ's love by sharing our gifts and resources with those in need around us.  Our mission is to provide an opportunity for members of our congregation to help others in our community, state, nation, and world.

Some of the Social Ministry Activities at Redeemer:

Our biggest projects have been providing holiday meals at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmans for families through the Crisis Connection.  The Crisis Connection provides intervention, education and advocacy for persons affected by domestic and sexual violence.  This year we will also have meals for shut ins in our own congregation.  We also provide Christmas gifts and Easter baskets for needy children.  We also have a Pack-a-Sack event for the local food bank.  We also accept donations of non-perishable food for the food bank at any time.

We also have the Fifth Sunday Fund--donations are collected in the months that have 5 Sundays to support this fund.  The money is used for emergency assistance to local families and individuals.  We have the Souper Bowl of Caring, donations to which go to Lutheran World Relief.  We also collect Campbell's soup labels for a local school.

Through the RCW (Redeemer Church Women's Organization) the congregation also collects soap, school kits, layettes, and makes quilts to send to Lutheran World Relief.

The good news is that anyone who has contributed food for holiday meals, helped organize delivery of the meals, bought Christmas gifts and Easter baskets, helped deliver those gifts, brought food or soup for the food bank, contributed money to the Fifth Sunday Fund, cut out a Campbell's soup label, or donated materials, money or time to the RCW's various ministry projects has been active in this mision, no matter how large or small the contribution.

Anyone who fells called to be more active in Social ministries at Redeemer can contact Nancy Richardson (Social Ministry chairperson) to get involved.
